A Long Awaited Look

“The guy who takes a chance, who walks the line between the known and unknown, who is unafraid of failure, will succeed.”

– Gordon Parks

After many years of wanting and missing various Gordon Parks exhibits, I finally had the opportunity to observe his works at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The exhibit, “Gordon Parks: The New Tide, Early Work 1940–1950″ is scheduled to end on Monday, February 18th so, I made it just in time.

I have long been an admirer of classic black and white photography. I started my photography journey shooting and developing black and white images. What I hadn’t realized was Mr. Parks was co-founder of Essence magazine. There are many other bit of information I learned as I walked through the exhibit. I also had a few interesting conversations while I strolled along viewing images and stopping at some for a more detailed look.

Gordon Parks is sheer inspiration for me and I am so happy that I took the time to visit the museum and finally study a masters work.
